Quality problems occurred during laser engraving of documents. The customer suspected that unwanted vibrations were due to the laser head. vibration measurement at various points with the Multisensor cockpit "orbit sense READY" we found that machine leaves and laying of documents were the cause. The arrangement of the engraving units and the design of the holders also influenced the vibrations. Following the study, the customer was able to reorient the mounts and reduce vibrations.

This case study describes how a company that labeled plastic documents with laser engraving could significantly improve quality. The documents are automatically opened, labeled and stacked. Three engraving units are mounted above the conveyor belt. The laser engraving suffered from quality fluctuations. With the help of our multi-sensor system and vibration analyses, we were able to improve the label quality.

We examined whether vibrations at the laser heads caused by leaves and stacks affected quality. We were also interested in the effects of the mounting form on the vibrations.
Our system uses acceleration sensors that record data with up to 800 Hz. This results in a high volume of data that easily manages our data infrastructure.
We flexibly attached sensors to important points within 10 minutes. In total, we used six sensors:
We varied the positions of the sensors to measure specific effects. The sensors detected movements in three directions.

The analysis confirmed that machine leaves and stacking caused the vibrations. An O-shaped holding frame had fewer vibrations than a C-shaped. Finally we mounted all engraving lasers on O-shaped frames.
